I’m in the market for a new laptop but as Official Ew, people shirt. I’m approaching the senior year of my engineering degree, I know I’ll be running more Matlab and resource intensive programs. That said, if Citrix draws off of the campus’ network and simply relays that data back to my screen, I could save a couple dollars by going with a smaller solid state and dual-core rather than quad. Sweet. Exactly what I needed to know. Do you have any idea if when I’m on VPN and running my own installation of Matlab if those processes are being done on my computer or the computer’s network? I have a feeling the VPN is just giving me the accessibility via Matlab license. Pretty much yea. The licensing is set to only work on campus network so the VPN is just used for authentication purposes and everything else is running locally. Correct, though it depends on how the software was coded to use multithreading. I’m 95% Matlab does. At this point, I’d probably avoid going dual cores such as core2duos and i3s as they won’t give much bang.
